Former Pink Floyd leader Roger Waters says he’s working on his next solo album, his first rock album since 1992’s Amused To Death.
He recently told Rolling Stone about the concept album: “It’s 55 minutes long. It’s songs and theater as well. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s couched as a radio play. It has characters who speak to each other, and it’s a quest.”

This isn’t out of character for Waters, as his albums tend to feature narratives running through them. Radio K.A.O.S. (1987) centered on a character named Billy who was confined to a wheelchair but was able to hear radio waves without the aid of a radio. Of course, Waters’ best-known concept album, The Wall, is among the biggest concept albums ever; its semi-autobiographical story follows a rock star named “Pink.”
Revisiting the latter album has taken most of his time and attention in recent years. Waters did a tour where he played the entire album, in a special effect-heavy theatrical show, from 2010 through earlier this year. But now that he’s been off the road, he told Rolling Stone that he’s “suffering a little bit of withdrawal.”
However, he’s not sure he’s going to hit the road for his next album. “You have to accept the fact that I’m not going to live forever. I’m 70 years old.”
