News of a concert documentary following Pink Floyd singer Roger Waters‘ to stadiums and festivals around the world from 2010-2013 with his epic presentation of The Wall should have fans pretty stoked to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the tour.
But, as reported by The Telegraph, Waters views the film a little differently than fans might anticipate. Roger Waters: The Wall made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend (Sept. 6), and it does more than just depict the inflating of the giant pig that soared over audiences or recount the amount of explosives needed to create the dazzling pyrotechnics show.
Waters wants the documentary to be viewed as an anti-war film, and true to form, the movie contains clips of Waters “visiting war cemeteries and memorials in Europe, including the grave of a grandfather who died in World War One, and the site of the 1944 battle that killed Water’s father when the singer was just a baby.”
“It’s a question that’s not being asked of our leaders often enough,” Waters said on the red carpet of the premiere about challenging politicians who resort to violence. “If this film asks that question, at least in part, then it would be good. It’s a protest movie. It’s an anti-war, protest movie.”
The Telegraph also reports that the film received a standing ovation followed by a singing of “Happy Birthday” to the singer who took the stage following the screening. Waters turned 71 on Sept. 6.
